Illinois agriculture industry leaders last week took the first steps in developing a strategic state plan. The Vision for Illinois Agriculture drew representatives from many sectors of the agricultural industry, higher education, and government to Bloomington for the group’s fi rst meeting. “We’ve got a lot of ground to plow,” Illinois Farm Bureau President Philip Nelson told the assembled leaders.

Her parents maintained a home environment in which a love for life and God, an appreciation for education, a thirst for continuous learning, involvement in outdoor activities, kindness, and service to all individuals were part of the family activities.

day in the state of Illinois. It’s remarkable. It is
agricultural education and the FFA. It’s Lucille T. Shaw and Debra Korte, agricultural teachers in Chicago and Kansas, Illinois, respectively. Both grew up on family farms. Both encountered mentors early in their education who possessed a natural ability to inspire and challenge.
