REPORTS TO: Agriculture/Horticulture Department Chairman
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Teach horticulture classes with emphasis on landscape design and construction, computer landscape design, videoscape design, herbaceous garden design, interior plants and general horticulture classes. 2. Collect an interior plant collection. 3. Teach both day and evening classes. Potentially develop online landscaping classes. 4. Assist students with the development of their landscape design and interior landscape design portfolios. 5. Work with other instructors in all phases of the total program. 6. Counsel with students regarding career opportunities in the field of landscape design. 7. Orient and relate classroom instruction in assigned areas to practical on-job problems likely to be encountered in the work force. 8. Promote and recruit for the department at high schools, career nights and association meetings. 9. Maintain the landscape design classroom, demonstration areas, and equipment. 10. Serve as a liaison with PLANET and ILCA organizations. 11. Assist in the development of future program modifications and additions. 12. Participate in the goals and objectives of the program and the college. 13. Maintain assessment and retention records for the landscape program. 14. Willingness to establish rapport with multicultural students and faculty within a community college environment. 15. Be willing to serve on college committees.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture and licensed in the state of Illinois or willingness to obtain license. 2. Successful teaching experience preferred. 3. Practical work experience in a horticulture business.
SALARY RANGE: Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications. Qualifications include education and related work experience.
