Governor Rod Blagojevich today announced changes to the agriculture curriculum taught at Illinois high schools that would provide students with the most current information the industry has to offer. “Agriculture education is a key component of Illinois’ elementary and secondary school curriculum,” Blagojevich said. “The agriculture industry has changed drastically from what it was generations ago. We need to make sure our children are schooled in the latest science and technology so they can both understand the industry as part of their history here in Illinois and, for those involved directly in the industry, help it continue to grow for years to come.” A team of agriculture experts is in the process of reviewing the current curriculum and working with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to update materials. The changes are specific to Biological Science Applications in Agriculture (BSAA) including food science, animal health and welfare, and agriculture technology.
